All About Me
Delivering Individualized and Effective Teaching to Students
I have been joyfully teaching students for 19 years. I taught in the classroom for 5 1/2 years before the birth of my three boys (ages 2 to 14). Since then, I have been privately tutoring students in grades K to 12. I believe every student is capable of learning if they are taught to their learning style. I love to use a hands on multi-sensory approach to make learning engaging and fun. I have invested a lot of my time in training to reach children with learning differences, including students with ADHD, dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and autism.

Education and Training
I received my B.A. in Social Ecology and minor in French from U.C. Irvine in 1994. I am currently pursuing my Education Specialist credential from Biola University. I have taken the Making Math Real Overview and Nine Lines courses as well as the Seeing Stars course from LindaMood Bell. I have also taken a Structured Literacy course (approved by the International Dyslexia Association) from literacy and dyslexia expert Dr. Margie Gillis from Literacyhow. I firmly believe that excellent training leads to excellent teaching and tutoring.
I am a Certified Structured Literacy Teacher. I love to help students learn to read, especially those who struggle. I like to use an Orton Gillingham approach, which is a sequential, systematic, explicit approach that focuses on mastery. I love to incorporate games so that students learn while having fun. I have had success helping students learn to read, including those who have previously shut down or experienced failure. It is so rewarding for me to watch students learn and love to read!
I love math and I strive to help students understand and love math as well. I am able to tutor all math including Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. I have tutored students in most of the local schools for 14 years and I am familiar with the math curriculum in many of the private and public schools.
Individual and Group Lessons
I love to work one on one with students by discovering their learning style and creating a custom made tutoring session. I am also able to create a class in the daytime for home school families that are interested.
I live near Concord High School and work from my home. My individual tutoring rate is $40 per hour. I am a vendor for Visions in Education and Valley View Charter Prep. Contact me for group rates or class rates. Some potential classes that I can create include most math classes through the high school level as well as structured literacy (reading and/or phonics) classes.
I am no longer accepting new students as I now teach part time at a local school.
